Generally when you call a law society referral service, you get the next lawyer on the list based on where you live.
Take it or leave it. They will only give you one name and that even could be a disbarred lawyer who has been reinstated.
YES LAW SOCIETIES EVEN REINSTATE DISBARRED LAWYERS.
The Law Society of BC says that law society referrals are a conflict of interest and so did not offer one until recently.
Strangely they started offering referrals recently despite their belief that it is a conflict of interest.
Remember Law Societies are essentially unions for lawyers. They protect lawyers from consumers, not consumers from lawyers.
LAW SOCIETY REFERRAL SERVICES USUALLY GIVE YOU THE NEXT LAWYER ON THE LIST REGARDLESS OF SUITABILITY. THAT IS NOT WHAT A REFERRAL SERVICE SHOULD DO. BE WARNED.
BEWARE: THERE ARE NOW MANY COPY CAT FAKE LAWYER REFERRAL SITES.
They are often just fronts for a lawyer or two and you get no real choice. When you ask them for a referral, you are not getting a referral service. You are being passed on to the site owner's or investor's law firm.
That is not choice, that is fraud and you are being cheated
CanLaw has about 72,000 lawyers in our system to draw on. We have been helping people like you for some 19 years now. No one else can match our record of service to people needing legal help.
CanLaw started FREE online Lawyer Referrals in Canada and the law societies could no longer charge people for referrals.
The Law Society or Upper Canada attacks CanLaw because we cost them a huge amount of fees (about $300,000 year) charged to people seeking referrals.
We have never charged for referrals and never will. CanLaw filed a defamation suit against the LSUC which was a waste of time
WARNING: Copy Cat Lawyer Referral Services.
CanLaw was the first on line Lawyer Referral Service in Canada and remains the number one lawyer referral service site.
Our success has spawned countless imitators. plagiarizers, poachers and fraud artists who copy CanLaw often word for word, but cannot deliver the services they claim to provide.
We cannot name the others to avoid litigation. Ask them for their traffic levels. Usually they have little or nearly no traffic. One in particular blatantly lies outright about their services.
CanLaw sometimes get attacked and defamatory postings are placed on the Internet simply because we are the number one service in Canada.
They are usually posted by either competitors or by people who owe CanLaw money and are just deadbeats and thieves. We have helped over 350,000 people and never charged a penny for our service.
